When will the intrusions on privacy stop? I for one do not feel comfortable with a grown man seeing a naked image of my wife in the name of security. It is true that I have the option of not flying (as sarcastically implied above) but that just merely dances around the real issue. In fact it’s a clear avoidance of reality and I fear that the continued path that all these security measures take will lead to something very imprisoning. Why such extremes taken yet no one are is questioning the tactics that failed to catch the underwear bomber in the first place and why they failed. Where was the security that existed after 9/11? The security dogs that could have sniffed out the chemicals? Or the tightened military presence? We obviously have the means to detect these bad guys without violating human rights and there are many cases where they already have. I mean why not just stop us from leaving our homes or just have us walk around naked. I think that the sacrifice of private dignity for safety is no excuse. This scanner may or may not have done much to detect some powder riding in his crotch. Besides, these nut jobs are already putting explosives inside their body cavities and triggering it with a cell phone. A body scanner does nothing to detect anything inside the body. They should have two lines. One “express” line for those people who are willing to get scanned for safety and for the sake of quickness, and one line for those who opt out. The “blurred, headless” pic is not the image you think the TSA will see. That is an edited image used for television. The actual image is crystal clear and shows the private parts quite clearly. Maybe you don’t care who sees your privates, but I do and so do millions, including parents of small children. If you are that afraid to fly, that you are willing to let strangers gawk at your naked children, then maybe you shouldn’t!

The object of the scans is to detect the presence of explosives or weapons, not to display the human body. Isn’t the technology smart enough to ‘white out’ the body to reveal just the threat – that is what happens with conventional baggage X-rays.
