Bob Barr, Born Again Libertarian
I never really looked into this guy the Libertarians are running but after seeing him on Colbert I have to say I’m really disappointed.
After checking out his Wikipedia page the only part I liked was his reversal on medical marijuana. But even with this he isn’t really saying that you have a right to medicate yourself and a right to ingest any and all substances you see fit, as a true Libertarian or freedom lover would. Instead he only argues that the Federal Government doesn’t have the right to regulate it in the first place. He has no problem with States criminalizing a substance and violating your right to self medicate and be free.
Yes, it’s definitely official. Bob Barr is a born again Libertarian who has returned to the light to give John McCain an excuse for losing to Obama and to help people believe that yes, they do have a choice and their vote counted.
On another note:
Seriously, why couldn’t Ron Paul run Libertarian again. He could have had way more impact then he’s having now and would probably pull at least 20% in a November, if not more. Hell, he could do a blog post saying he’s running independent today and have at least $20 million in donations by Monday.
Ron Paul Gets 22% (update, it’s now 24%) In Idaho Primary!
AOL and CBS are both showing Ron Paul at 22% against John McCain in the Idaho Primary. This is another sign that the GOP really needs to start thinking strategy for November.
Even though McCain has been pulling 70-80% in primaries Ron Paul has been consistently pulling 15-25% of the vote. While this seems easy to most people the goal of this whole process is to win the Presidency. John McCain will not get any support from the Ron Paul camp. In the November Presidential Election Ron Paul voters will split between Obama and Barr, with some writing in Ron Paul.
On the other hand Ron Paul will pull all of McCain’s support (i.e. people who will vote Republican no matter what and people who would never vote for a black person) by default.
Ron Paul also have the upper hand as he will pull a lot of votes from people registered as Democrats, including the anit-war movement. McCain has no appeal to Democrats.
Of course lest a miracle occurs McCain will be the nominee and the American people will be denied a real choice yet again. If Bush doesn’t get to bomb Iran one of his successors will. And at least no one will be disappointed, as we the people will end up getting more and more the the same crap and care not the least, as long as American Idol is still on the tube.
Update:
Paul has ended up with 24% of the vote, a very large percentage of the vote for someone who has effectively stopped campaigning and gets very little mainstream news coverage.
Why is the FBI and the NSA heavily recruiting Asians?

FBI,
NSA
While being bored and browsing reddit.com I came across a story about speculators driving up oil prices on the Asia Times when I noticed the jobs ads from the FBI and the NSA. As you can see in the screenshot below one of the ads even features a young Asian woman.

So what do you all think? Is this odd or am I just tripping?
“If someone is so fearful that they are going to start using their weapons to protect their rights, it makes me very nervous that these people have weapons at all.”
I mean wow. Seriously? I’m at a loss of where to start on this quote from Rep Henry Waxman……
Why would you be nervous about people protecting their rights with weapons unless you were one of the people trying to take away those rights?
If people are arming themselves to defend they’re rights from the government (which they should be) shouldn’t Rep Waxman and his fellow Congressmen question how well they’re carrying out their sworn duty to uphold and defend the Constitution?
What about the militarized local and federal law enforcement? That makes me pretty nervous and I’m a law abiding citizen. Anyone who reads Reddit.com knows these guys accidentally kill, assault, taser, or otherwise harm people daily, not to mention all the people they frame and falsely arrest.
Oh, and by the way, Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson is fucking nuts
Thanks to the Objective Justice blog for this:
The Mayor of Cleveland has decided that even though he believes that cracking down on drug-dealers withguns will cause more violence in the streets, it will be worth it in the long run.
From The Plain Dealer:
Mayor Frank Jackson doesn’t want to see more deadly car chases and shootouts between cops and suspects, but under his new police plan, he expects them.
Jackson told the police this week to be more aggressive in targeting gun-toting drug dealers. He has said repeatedly that he expects there to be violent, perhaps deadly, run-ins between police and criminals.
“This is not a game,” Jackson said Wednesday. “People are killing each other. We expect more confrontations.”
Cleveland Mayor Frank G. Jackson says subprime lending practices no different than “organized crime”
In comments made by Cleveland Mayor Frank G. Jackson during a press conference announcing his lawsuit against major New York banks for creating a public nuisance. The banks sued include institutions such as Deutsche Bank, Goldman Sachs, Merrill Lynch and Wells Fargo.
From United Press International:
The mayor contends the companies irresponsibly bought and sold high-interest home loans to people who had “no realistic means of keeping up with their loan payments,” resulting in widespread defaults that depleted the city’s tax base and left entire neighborhoods in ruins, the Cleveland Plain-Dealer reported.
City officials hope to recover hundreds of millions of dollars in damages, including lost taxes from devalued property and money spent tearing down or boarding up thousands of abandoned houses.
“To me, this is no different than organized crime or drugs,” Jackson said in an interview with Plain Dealer reporters and editors. “It has the same effect as drug activity in neighborhoods. It’s a form of organized crime that happens to be legal in many respects.”
I think the central banks have finally outplayed their hand making our banking and monetary system a real issue again.
